Kutlag Ataman Response.

I think that what Ataman is doing with his films provides an interesting insight on different peoples lives and identities.  The four women with wigs and their different reasons for wearing them I find especially interesting because I never even thought of there being such a thing as a wig community...  But I'm not quite sure how this is supposed to inspire my final project.  I already have what I believe is a solid idea that could be viewed as fantasy, comedy, or poetry if you want to analyze it that deeply.  But my reasoning for choosing to make the project that I am is because I'll enjoy the process and create something that no one will expect.  And that's an awesome feeling.

Helvetica Review

After watching Helvetica, I feel like I treated text as a toy rather than the powerful tool that it apparently is.  The various ways different fonts and styles can reach out to people in different ways is astounding.  One woman made me speechless when she stated that helvetica caused the vietnam and iraq wars.  I am not sure if fonts have that much power, but they can definitely be used effectively to better communicate an idea.

Now that I've watched this film, I see font as a powerful ally for upcoming posters and projects.  I see vibrant and dynamic fonts, subtle and gentle fonts, and I refuse to use wingdings.  If I ever decide to drop out of art school and pursue a dream of world domination, you better believe I'll use words with a bitching font.

Propaganda Critique

My propaganda critique went well in my opinion.  I was glad that I could produce a hokey, family appealing pro-temple poster that was cheesier than kraft.  What I am most proud of was my anti-temple dining poster that grossed the crap out of everyone.  Sadie refused to look at the poster, so... mission accomplished!  I received some pretty good feed back that I will use to revise my posters.  I think that I will continue to make more propaganda posters because they are down right fun and potentially able to spread ideas across the country.

Photoshop Crit Response

I feel that my crit in class on my Photoshop project went sufficiently well.  I received several comments of praise, several questions about my piece, and a few critical observations that I am going to use to improve my project.  Compared to some of my other critiques in different classes, this one went very well.  In the past I have had experiences where my class misinterpreted my concept and proceeded to bash me as a misogynist for 45 minutes.  So either I've come a long way as an artist or that class was crasy...

"Thinking About Environment" Response

After reading the article, I believe the environment contained within an image is crucial to setting the "mood" of the viewer's interpretation.  A photo with a sunrise, or puffy clouds against a clear blue sky can certainly give the image a brighter, happier feel depending on the subject.  The environment of my composite project, a tattoo shop interior, has a very sterile feel to it because of the fluorescent lighting and equipment.  I hope that as I continue to work on it, the image will become more intense while still maintaining that sterile feeling.

As a young adult, I have a general understanding of how macs and PCs work, but my familiarity with programs like photoshop, illustrator, and sketchup are virtually nonexistent.  Hopefully I will be able to gain a solid understanding of these programs so that I may continue to teach myself and master these programs.

Computers are a visual, electronic tool.  If Visual Studies is the study of everything we see, then it is safe to assume that computers have a place in the visual studies world.  I believe we will use them very much in our field.

I've been to Australia and I cut down trees for a living when I'm home for breaks.

Bertha weighed four hundred and eighty six pounds.
But it wasn't her fault she was obese.
She was at the Xuxu Farmshow, where there were lots of fat people.
She was the fattest woman there though, so they gave her a blue ribbon.
The next day they carted her off to the slaughter house with the other winners...
